A Move You Should Do MONDAY – Lateral Child’s Pose

|

This week’s move is a simple one that can have a big impact on your posture and the ability to lift your arm over your head pain-free. It’s the lateral child’s pose, a variation on the common yoga pose. It’s one of the best ways we know to test and stretch the latissimus dorsi, one of the largest muscles of your back.

Why does this matter?

The latissimus dorsi is unique in that is positioned on your back but wraps around to the front of your shoulder. It is the one back muscle that actually will cause you to slouch if it is tight or over worked. It commonly becomes tight if you sit slouched in a chair for prolonged periods of time, or spend hours looking down at your phone while holding it in front of you. When it gets tight, it also causes your lower back to sway or hyperextend. And it can get tighter on the side you don’t rotate well towards.

So, try the lateral child’s pose and have a pain-free day.

Until next time…

Kind Regards,
