A Move You Should Do MONDAY – Med Ball Frog Jump
Today’s move is the Med Ball Frog Jump, a simple but effective exercise that activates the entire biomechanical chain. Here’s how to do it:
- Hold a medicine ball with both hands
- Place it on the floor in front of you. The farther you reach, the more challenging the exercise
- Jump your feet to the ball
- Move the ball forward and repeat jumping your feet to the ball
- Perform 6-10 repetitions
Why does this matter?
Whenever you perform an exercise where your feet and hands are planted on the floor, you engage muscles from the feet to the hands. Due to the instability of the ball on the ground, this exercise activates core muscles (rectus abdominus, transverse abdominus and gluteus maximus) and the shoulders (serratus anterior and the rotator cuff). It also improves flexibility of the hips and ankles, requiring dorsiflexion and hip flexion in end range. Maintaining this type of range of motion will enhance daily function like squatting, running, stair climbing and jumping.
Give the med ball frog jump a try. Just a few repetitions will engage muscles in your entire body.
Because nobody has time to be in pain.
Until next time…
