A Move You Should Do MONDAY – A-Frame Push-Up

I temporarily lost my voice, so this week’s video will be backed up by some upbeat music. But we can’t let a minor thing like that stop us from starting the week with a new move. This week’s move is the A-Frame Push-Up. It is a simple move that packs a big punch.

Start on all fours and move into a downward dog position by pressing up onto your hands and shifting back to your heels. You will feel a nice stretch on the backs of your legs (gastrocnemius and hamstrings). Then lower your head towards the floor by allowing your elbows to bend. Make sure your elbows are pointing backwards and not out to the side. Then straighten your elbows. Perform 6-10 repetitions.

Why does this matter?

  1. This exercise stretches the superficial back line (SBL), a line of fascia that extends from the bottom of your feet all the way to the top and front of your head. Tightness in the SBL is often cause by slouching or prolonged sitting and may result in back pain and headaches. That’s right. This move could help get rid of a headache
  2. Activates the lower trapezius. The lower trapezius is often weak in people who slouch a lot. A weak lower trapezius creates an over active upper trapezius, often causing shoulder impingement or neck pain.
  3. Tones the back of your arms. Nobody likes the “bat wings” that start to form on the back of the arms as we age. This exercise will help keep you out of the flight zone.

So, give the A-Frame Push-Up a try.

Because nobody has time to be in pain.

Until next time…(hopefully with my voice)

Kind Regards,
