All About You FRIDAY – A Tourist In Your Hometown

|

Every time I travel, I organize an itinerary around the things I love: art, architecture, food and bikes. I look up the city on Trip Advisor and book the top tours. I make sure I stay in a city for several days so that I can learn about the culture and all it has to offer. I take pictures, write about it and share it just so I can relive the experience several times and cement it in my mind. Wandering and wondering. I highly recommend it.

But when was the last time you did that in your hometown? Yesterday, we decided to set off on a bike adventure in our own hometown, riding the Detroit Riverwalk and Belle Isle, we passed historical landmarks and made some interesting discoveries. This was our route:

We started at Eastern Market and headed out on the Dequindre Cut to the Detroit Riverwalk, recently rated #1 in the US. We rode around Belle Isle and then headed towards downtown on the Riverwalk. We made our way to the new section of the Southwest Greenway which led us to Michigan Central Station and Corktown, where we discovered Alba, a cool coffee shop with deliciously curated pastries from local shops.

In the evening, we headed to Greenfield Village to enjoy the 4th of July festivities. I was born and raised in Detroit and this was the first time I experienced this event. Anchored by a performance by our world-class Detroit Symphony Orchestra and a fireworks display, the evening was spectacular.

That’s a lot of links for you to check out without having to pack a suitcase or jump on a plane. Get out and see our historic city. Take a deep dive into the art and architecture right in your back yard.

It’s Friday. Take an adventure in your own hometown. You won’t regret it. Don’t forget to celebrate.

Until next time…

Kind Regards,
