All about you FRIDAY – The Healing Beneath Your Feet

Did you know that there is incredibly healing power just under your feet? All you have to do is touch it. 

Grounding (or earthing), the direct skin contact with the surface of the earth, has proven to have significant benefits:

  1. Decreasing inflammation
  2. Improving circulation and wound healing
  3. Reducing pain
  4. Reducing stress
  5. Improving sleep
  6. Reducing delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS)

By walking barefoot or lying on the ground for 20-30 minutes a day, you can recharge and revitalize your system using the earth’s battery. Negative ions replace the positive ions that overload our systems from electronic devices, neutralizing free radicals that can damage our systems. It works if you walk barefoot on concrete or in water, on soil, sand or brick but not on asphalt

For those that can’t make it outside, there are devices that can help you harness this power by creating a connection between you and the Earth, simulating walking barefoot on the ground. Though practical, it doesn’t sound nearly as attractive as being outside and doing the real thing.

I had heard of grounding practice before, never having really taken it seriously. But I was reminded of it this week as I was sitting in a park at an outdoor concert listening to some live jazz music on a perfect summer night. I took my shoes and socks off and put my feet in the grass. I have decided to do a little experiment of my own and I think you should join me. 

30 minutes of grounding a day for the next week. Walk barefoot, lie on the grass, sit on a blanket and put your feet on the ground while you listen to some live music or read a book or just take some deep breaths. Walk on the beach with someone you love. There could be worse experiments. Just writing about it makes me smile.
