Kinesiology THURSDAY – 3 Key Facts About Adductor Magnus
The Adductor Magnus does 3 things:
1. Decelerates hip flexion (along with hamstrings and gluteus maximus)
2. Decelerates hip abduction (as you shift your weight to your other leg
3. Externally rotates the femur (in late stance)

So what?
1. Trigger points here can prevent a hip from internally rotating
2. A shut off glute max can cause overload to this muscle
3. Trigger points here can cause a limb to over pronate (hip adduction) or over supinate (hip ER)
(All of the above can cause low back and knee pain)
What do I do about this?
1. Perform an activity that causes knee or back pain (squat or bend forward) – this is a test
2. Test right and left adductor with the 1/2 pancake stretch
3. Stretch the tighter adductor for 30 seconds (or six dynamic repetitions)
4. Re-test #1
5. Massaging this muscle on the inner thigh will also help. (hint: if it is tender to touch, it needs that massage)
