All About You FRIDAY – Contain Yourself

Usually, I wax philosophical at the end of the week, but today, I wanted to share with you one of my guilty pleasures. It’s payday and sometime this week, I’ll wander into the Container Store. You might be laughing or rolling your eyes, but hear me out. As much as my mind works like spaghetti (reference last week’s Friday blog), I have discovered the amazing calming effects of this clear bin.
After binge watching episodes of The Home Edit during the pandemic, I began dreaming of closets, shelves and a pantry that were compartmentalized and color coordinated. I even contacted The Home Edit to see how much it would cost to organize parts of my home. It was cost prohibitive to say the least.
An interesting thing happens when you wander into the Container Store. You first get inspired and begin dreaming of how your house could be perfect if you just had enough time and money. Then you get overwhelmed because they have every possible bin, gadget and gizmo to entice you into thinking it’s all a piece of cake.
I’m writing this to save you a lot of time wandering through that store, just in case you find it overwhelming. Start with this clear bin. After lots of trial and error, I have found it to be the most versatile organizing tool in this house.
This is a shelf in my home office that houses things to be creative (stickers, markers, paint, etc) and cords for electronic devices. The second bin is still a work in progress. I’m calling it the random sports related stuff bin.

This is a shelf in my master bedroom closet: a bin for face stuff, hair stuff, teeth stuff and medicines. (I see a hair thing has been hung on something in the face stuff bin…hmm). You can see I splurged and even got some little bins to organize within the bin.

And this is a shelf in my refrigerator: Mostly I like the bins without the lids, but bins with lids allow you to stack things on top. Looks like we need to go grocery shopping, but you get the idea. When produce is washed and placed in a clear bin, it makes it easier to grab and eat.

That’s my tip for the week. There are more economical options for this idea at Target, but the bins are flimsier and are a slightly different size. And this blog was about a guilty pleasure.
Clear bins make it easy to organize, categorize and see what you have, which makes it easier to edit out what you don’t need. So head on over to your friendly Container Store and don’t get intimidated. You can do this! Organization begins one bin at a time.
It’s been a long week. You made it! Don’t forget to celebrate.
Until next time…

Kind Regards,
