A Move You Should Do MONDAY – Downward Dog

|

Today’s move is a simple move that packs a big punch. The downward dog is one of the best exercises for the superficial back line, a line of fascia that extends from the bottoms of your feet to the top of your head. When you try this move you might feel two things:

  1. Difficulty getting your heels to the ground (tight calf and hamstring muscles)
  2. Difficulty pushing through your hands to get your hips in the air (weak lower trapezius muscle)

Why does this matter?

Tightness in the the lower part of this line and weakness in the upper part are often the result of poor posture, something we battle all day long as we sit and/or look at our devices. Also, this fascial connection is the reason why tightness in your legs could be the cause of your tension headaches. The downward dog is a quick way to stretch your legs and strengthen your upper back, counteracting the effects of gravity on you body.

So give it a try. It just might be the best 30 seconds of your day.

Because nobody has time to be in pain.

Until next time…
