A Move You Should DO MONDAY – Scapular Relaxercise
This week’s move is one that, if perfected, will improve neck and shoulder stiffness. We call it scapular relaxercise. Give it a try.
You should be able to sit with your hand on your lap and move your shoulder blade in different directions without your hand moving or sliding on your thigh. This is proof that your scapulothoracic joint is mobile. Try it on both sides, one at a time. Are they the same?
Why does this matter?
A mobile scapulothoracic joint is key in being able to reach overhead or behind you without shoulder pain. It is also important in reducing neck tension. A scapula that does not move well or independently of your humerus (arm) is often one cause of shoulder bursitis, neck pain or rotator cuff impingement.
So get your scapula moving with scapular relaxercise. It only takes a minute.
Because nobody has time to be in pain.
Until next time…
Kind Regards,
