A Move You Should Do MONDAY – The Twisting Bear
This week’s move, the twisting bear, is one that I learned while going through the GMB Integral Strength Program. I was shocked to learn I could do it way better on one side than the other.
Why does this matter?
One of the main things the twisting bear requires is elongation of the quadratus lumborum (QL). The QL runs from your pelvis to your 12th rib and is commonly tight in people who have a weak gluteus medius (side butt muscle). Weakness of the gluteus medius is often at the core of many low back, hip, knee and ankle problems like: greater trochanteric bursitis, herniated discs, patellofemoral pain and Achilles tendonitis.
A tight QL may also be the cause of one shoulder being higher than the other, which in turn may cause rotator cuff tendonitis or impingement, tennis elbow, cervical pain and cervicogenic headaches.
All that from a tight quadratus lumborum. So give this move a try and if it’s a little hard, break it down and work on it. It won’t take long to master it and it will be worth every second.
Because nobody has time to be in pain.
Until next time…
