All about you Friday – Ryze and Shine

A few weeks ago, I shared with you my favorite morning drink. Today, I thought I would share my favorite lunch time and weekend morning drink: Ryze mushroom coffee. I was introduced to it about 9 months ago and I really like it. Why do I not drink this on weekday mornings? Because this is a drink to be savored. Also, after a crazy busy morning of treating patients, it’s nice to come home and enjoy a warm cup in preparation for my busy afternoon.

Though it is currently trending in popularity, mushroom coffee has been around since the 1970’s, primarily used by the military when real coffee grounds could not be found out in the field. They would grind up mushrooms for their earthy taste. But medicinal mushrooms have been used since ancient times in Asia.

Mushroom coffee contains Lion’s mane, Reishi, Turkey’s tail, Chaga, and Cordyceps with the following potential health benefits:

  1. Improved immunity
  2. Improved gut health and digestion
  3. Improved mental clarity
  4. Decreased risk of heart disease and cancer

A cup of Ryze also has 65% less caffeine than a regular cup of coffee.

If you’re really interested in the health benefits of mushrooms and mycotherapy, here is an extensive article to dive into.

What’s the downside?

  1. Most of the research on the benefits of mushrooms have been performed on lab animals, though there are a growing number of clinical case studies due to the rising popularity of mycotherapy (use of medicinal mushrooms).
  2. It’s more expensive than a regular cup of coffee. But if you choose a subscription service or wait for a discount, you can get it down to about $35 a month, which is still way cheaper than going to your local coffee shop.

I’ve tried only one other brand of mushroom coffee, Four Sigmatic, and it has a bolder taste than Ryze. I didn’t enjoy it as much, but you can buy it on Amazon and it is a little bit cheaper. However, it did not make this list of Top 5 Mushroom Coffee blends in 2023.

So, if you are trying to decrease your caffeine intake and want to add a boost to your health, maybe give mushroom coffee a try.

It’s been a long week and I’m sure you’ve helped a lot of people. Make sure you celebrate.

Until next time…

Kind Regards,
