A Move You Should Do MONDAY – The Quad flow
The quad flow is a quick series you can use to wake up the muscles in the front of your thigh. Because a part of this muscle, the rectus femoris, crosses both the hip and the knee, it is important to include quad strengthening in your routine that places the hip into extension while the knee is flexed, and this flow covers all of it. No leg extension machine? No problem. This flow has you covered.
Why does this matter?
The quadriceps muscle is one of the most important muscles of your legs, providing shock absorption when you squat, walk, run or jump. It is also one of the first muscles to shut off after an injury or surgery and it is one of the first muscles to get lazy because it has a lot of helper muscles also decelerating knee flexion when your foot is on the ground.Â
A weak quad often lies at the root of knee pain that happens “just because”. If you feel pain in your knees when you squat or you can hear your knees crunching as you walk up and down the stairs, practicing this quad flow and allowing your body to figure out the transitions between each move will go a long way in strengthening this important muscle and helping get rid of pain.Â
So, take a minute to give it a try. Actually, I think it takes less than a minute to do the whole thing. You owe it to yourself.
Because nobody has time to be in pain.
Until next time…
